Security on Inlined
Last updated: February 5, 2026
Inlined is built with security and privacy at its core. As an AI autocomplete tool that processes your text, we take the responsibility of protecting your data seriously. Here's how we keep your information safe.
Your text stays on your device
Pro and Lifetime plans support local AI models (llama.cpp or MLX), where all text processing happens entirely on your Mac. Your keystrokes, text context, and autocomplete suggestions never leave your device. There are no cloud servers involved, no data uploads, and no external connections.
This means Inlined works fully offline with local models, and your writing remains completely private.
Cloud AI is your choice
All paid plans include a built-in cloud API for AI suggestions. Pro and Lifetime users can also connect their own API provider for full control. When you choose to use cloud AI features:
- Text context is sent to the cloud provider (built-in or your configured provider such as Groq, Cerebras, Together AI)
- All API requests are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- When using custom providers, requests go directly to your chosen provider
- You control which provider receives your data and under what terms
API keys are stored securely
Your cloud API keys are stored in macOS Keychain, the same secure storage used by Safari, Mail, and other Apple apps. API keys are never stored in plain text, configuration files, or UserDefaults.
Minimal permissions
Inlined requires the Accessibility permission to read text fields and insert autocomplete suggestions. This is the same mechanism used by macOS system features. We request only the permissions necessary for core functionality:
- Accessibility: Required to read and insert text across macOS apps
- Network: Only used when cloud AI models are enabled
Inlined does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or any other sensitive system resources.
Learning data stays local
All learning data — including your custom dictionary, correction rules, style preferences, and semantic memories — is stored locally on your Mac in your Application Support directory. This data is never uploaded to any server.
No analytics or tracking
Inlined does not include any analytics frameworks, tracking pixels, or telemetry. We don't collect usage data, crash reports, or behavioral metrics. Your usage of Inlined is entirely private.
